Rundown of Silverlight 4 Beta Features and 6 Hands on Labs
As a welcome to Silverlight 4 Beta to the world and John Papa to the Channel 9, we put together a short video on the top features in Silverlight 4 Beta.
The video is a summary of John’s whitepaper entitled What’s New in Silverlight 4 Beta. A document covering every new feature that’s been added to the beta along with a brief overview and code snippets.
We’ve also posted 6 Hands-On Labs on Channel 9 which demonstrate how to use some of the new features:
- Webcam and Microphone Showcase
pixel shader effects, webcam access and capturing a snapshot from the webcam - Out of Browsertrusted out of browser application, automatically updating your out-of-browser application and using COM Automation to access Word and Excel
- Data Validation, Binding, DataForm and DataGrid Featuresdata validation, IDataErrorInfo, Grouping support in the DataGrid, Binding to Dependency Properties, Fallback Values and String formatting
- Image Browser
a multi-touch image browser application, drop target functionality, right-click support and handling multi-touch events - Rich Text Editor
the new RichTextArea control, programmatic clipboard access, bi-directional text, printing and FlowDirection - Picture Browser
asynchronously load images from a web server into the new ViewBox control, Implicit Styles, and MouseWheel support
You can probably tell by my emotion in the screenshot above, I’m very excited about Silverlight 4
